General information:
Międzyzdroje is a well known seaside bathing and fishing resort with
a population of about 4500, situated on the Wolin Island, surrouded
by the Wolin National Park. The first records of Międzyzdroje are from
the 12th century. Till 1630 Międzyzdroje was ruled by the Pomeranian
Dukes, then it was occupied by the Swedes for about 100 years. From
1730 it belonged to Prussia and the 5th of May 1945 it came back to
Poland. Untill the middle of the 19th century Międzyzdroje was still
a fishing village. By the end of the 19th century it became a
fashionable seaside resort. A therapeutic establishment and hotels
were built and a pier for passenger vessels. The pier at Międzyzdroje
360m in length (built in 1906) is the focal point of this seaside
resort, visited by hundreds of thousands of holiday-makers every year.
In 1945 Międzyzdroje was granted its municipal charter.
The climatic conditions of Międzyzdroje are excellent, owing to the
influence of the sea, strong insulation during summer time and
background protection of forests.
Boarding houses, camping, easy access and convenient connections make
Międzyzdroje wonderful place to spend holidays. It's one of the most
popular spas of the Pomeranian seaside located near Wolin National Park
with the bison sanctuary and one-hour by car from Szczecin.
There is a fishing boat base and coastguard district. The resort is
connected by road and rail to Szczecin and Świnoujście.
